An event which is set to attract researchers and industry practitioners from multiple domains from the social sciences to applied science and technology. i-RIE 2023 is the ideal platform for you to unveil your research-driven inventions and innovations. It is an opportunity for experienced and novice researchers to showcase their research activities and expand their network of collaborators.

WHO SHOULD JOIN?

Participate in this international event and be recognized with awards for your innovations. The event is open to inventors and innovators across the following categories:
  • Junior Inventor category (participants aged 12 and below).

  • Young Inventor category (participants aged 13 - 17).

  • Higher Learning Institutions - Undergraduate category (currently registered as students in higher learning institutions).

  • Higher Learning Institutions - Postgraduate category (currently registered as students in higher learning institutions)

  • Open category (academician, industry player, others).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

JUNIOR / YOUNG INVENTOR

  • All submissions must be in English.
  •  Teams with a maximum of 5 members.

  • An innovation must be new unless substantial improvements have been done to it  since it was submitted to a previous competition.

  • Maximum 2 products per school.

UNDERGRADUATE / POSTGRADUATE / OPEN

  • All submissions must be in English.

  • Teams with a maximum of 5 members.

  • An innovation must be new unless substantial improvements have been done to it since it was submitted to a previous competition.

  • Patent/copyright.

  • Submission can be in the form of ideas/products.

JUDGING

1. FIRST ROUND

  • Submit the abstract and the link of your 5-minute YouTube video in the registration form. (Abstract template.doc)

  • The announcement of first-round winners (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) will be on 20th September 2023.

 

2. FINAL ROUND

  • Selected Gold award winners will be competing in Final Round to stand a chance to win the “Best Innovation Award”.

Additional info for video content

1.  Originality of the invention/innovation/design/idea
  • Provide evidence(s) to support the originality and novelty of the product
  • Highlight the inventive features of the invention/innovation/design/idea
2.  Practicality of invention/innovation/design/idea
  • Provide/describe the relevance of the invention/innovation/design/idea in dealing with the related problem and how it contributes to new knowledge/technology
  • Highlight the contribution of product toward social benefit/society
3.  Commercial viability of the invention/innovation/design/idea
  • Provide evidence of market requirements and market potential
  • Highlight the proposed selling price and anticipated profit margin (if applicable)
  • If the product has been marketed, provide proof of sales.
  • Provide a complete prototype/system/sample and describe future development plans.
4.  Presentation and demonstration of the invention/innovation/design/idea  (can provide the process/flow of the invention/innovation/design/idea).
  • Presentation will be evaluated based on information delivery, visual appeal, content, and video quality
5.  Academic and intellectual property recognition (IPR)
  • Provide evidence(s) of the related published publication if any
  • Provide evidence(s) of the related IPR if any (copyright, patent, trademark)
  • Provide evidence(s) of industrial collaboration and business model (if relevant)

FEES


* E-certificate for junior and young participants is free.
RM 50 will be charged for each printed certificate and a medal.


PRIZE

  • Cash prize RM500 for Best Innovation Award.
  • E-certificate for all award winners.
