The Accounting Research Institute (ARI) was formed in 2005 and approved by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2006. Prior to its formation, ARI had gone through a complete evolutionary cycle which include of first being a special interest group (SIG), then as a research centre and finally as a research institute. As a research institute, ARI is responsible to coordinate and manage the activities of its seven multi-discipline research centres (also known as units of excellence). The seven research centres are namely: - UiTM-ACCA (Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants) Financial Reporting Research Centre - FRR

- UiTM-CPA (Australia) Public Sector Accounting Research Centre (PSARC)
- UiTM-ACCA Asia-Pacific Centre for Sustainability (APCeS)
In addition to the seven research centres, ARI is also supported by various special interest groups (SIGs) such as Accounting Education, Taxation, Accounting Information System, Auditing, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Finance. |
