Professor Jeyapalan Kasipillai joined Monash University Malaysia in August 2006.
Prior to joining Monash University, Dr. Jeyapalan was a Professor at the Faculty of Accountancy, University Utara Malaysia (UUM). In 1975, he began his employment with the Inland Revenue Board and served this Department for 16 years. He held the post of Assistant Director (Tax Investigations), prior to joining UUM as a full-time lecturer in 1991. He is a fellow member of both the Malaysian Institute of Secretaries & Administrators and the Malaysian Institute of Taxation. Since 1994, Jeyapalan is a Council Member of the Malaysian Institute of Taxation and in 1997 was appointed as consultant editor for the “Malaysian Tax Reporter” a publication of CCH (Malaysia) Ltd.
Jeyapalan was a former tax consultant to Multimedia Development Corporation. He has authored eight books and his latest book is entitled “A Comprehensive Guide to Malaysian Taxation” published by McGraw-Hill in 2006. Jeyapalan has published extensively in the areas of hidden economy and tax non-compliance; environmental taxation; linking foreign direct investment with investment incentives; re-examining Malaysian source rules in the electronic era and more recently in the area relating to Goods and Services Tax.
In 2003, Jeyapalan was appointed by Tax Notes International, USA to be its official correspondent for Malaysia. In 2004-2006, Jeyapalan was Chairman of UUM Corporate Strategic Restructuring Planning Unit. In 2005-2006, he served the Tax Review Committee of the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia, Putrajaya. Dr. Jeyapalan is currently Director of the Malaysian Business Unit at the School of Business.
